Costco changed a beloved bakery item – customers are angry

Costco is making a big change to one of its beloved bakery items — and customers aren’t happy.

Earlier this week, a shopper saw a sign at their local store showing the changes being made to Costco muffins.

The bakery is switching to smaller muffins and will no longer offer muffin mixes. Instead of mixing and matching two 35-ounce packs of six larger muffins for $9.99, stores are selling an eight-pack of 31-ounces of an individual flavor for $6.99.

After the buyer posted a photo of the announcement on Reddit, fans began complaining about the changes — especially the price.

One customer calculated what the price per ounce was in each container and concluded that “the new ones are 58% more expensive.”

“So smaller, more expensive muffins,” wrote another.

“At that price point, I’ll just bake mine,” someone choked.

“The young ones are smaller. Probably about 70% the size of the old one,” one pointed out.

In addition to the price, people complained that the new muffins were not as tasty as the older, larger muffins.

“They are so dry! The old ones were moist and delicious. The new ones look like they’ve been left out and taste weird,” one person complained.

“I was excited about the 8 pack because we can’t eat 12 before they go bad, but they are objectively worse muffins,” noted another.

“The new muffins are great if you like a dry, grainy mess,” someone said. “Our family [has] bought the old muffins a few times a year for maybe 25 years. We will never buy these again, they were terrible.”

People were also devastated when they learned that their muffin flavors could no longer be mixed.

“I really wish they had a different package. I don’t want to buy 8 muffins with the same flavor. 4 + 4 would have been ideal”, wrote one.

“My grandma and I used to share these before she passed away so this is really getting me down,” said another.

“My family can’t agree on what flavor to get. Sometimes we mix and freeze. We’ll probably skip these now,” one user commented.
