Crotch cream for dream skin?
Dr. Shereene Idriss, a board-certified dermatologist, has taken to TikTok to share an unexpected treatment for fine lines and signs of aging.
Idriss steers clear of using facial fillers, telling her patients and 1.1 million followers: “If you have smile lines or wrinkles around your mouth and they really bother you, fillers are not the answer.”
She explained that she never uses fillers on herself or her patients because, over time, the popular injections add length to the face and contribute to a “pimple” look.
In addition to using retinol creams, the good doctor had a surprising tip for minimizing lines
“Estrogen cream, especially if you’re menopausal or postmenopausal, is effective because estrogen locks in moisture, which will minimize the appearance of sagging skin in this area.”
Vaginal estrogen creams like Estrace and Premarin are designed to treat vaginal irritation, dryness, and pain caused by menopause, intercourse, cancer, and other sources.
And apparently, the same thing that makes sex smooth makes skin smooth.
When applied to the face, topical estrogen can improve skin by restoring moisture, increasing collagen production, improving firmness and elasticity, and reducing pore size and wrinkle depth.
A previous study focused on the topical application of estrogen to aging skin found that after six months of treatment, elasticity and firmness were significantly improved, and wrinkle depth and pore size were reduced from 61% to 100%.
Previous research has established a relationship between estrogen levels and general attractiveness.
Instead of fillers, Idriss also advocates using PRF, or platelet-rich fibrin, injections for youthful skin.
Estrogen creams may be a safer route than fillers, which have been linked to a host of unpleasant side effects, including actual facial melting.
Both PRF and its cousin PRP—or the platelet-rich plasma used in the so-called “vampire facial”—use the patient’s own blood, which is extracted and then placed in a centrifuge to be separated. In theory, injections of the rejuvenating blend have the potential to speed up skin healing, minimize under-eye circles and wrinkles, and even treat hair loss.
A small study published last year found promising results in using PRF to treat acne breakouts and increase skin texture and elasticity.
Idriss previously shared the five things she would never do to her skin and three tricks to keep your hands looking young.
