Amanda York was only 11 years old when she discovered she had a brain tumor with the size of a golf ball.
As she passed into an immediate operation saved her life, she also came with considerable weakness – like extremely early menopause and an increase in weight gain.
“I entered menopause – when I was 11,” York told Sot.com.
“They told me I would have hormonal complications, but my family and I had no idea what it meant. I went to the hospital with 98 pounds, and went home with 160 pounds. A year after surgery, I was 250 pounds.”
Despite practicing with a personal coach and trying to maintain a healthy diet, York’s weight remained between 200 and 250 pounds for most of her adult life.
Now 38 years old, her bulge battle is finally over – and the secret of her success has not been intense cardio or a fashion diet.
York’s return point came in 2016, when she decided to join the time of the life of the health club and fitness – an action that led to a complete change of thought.
Previously, she had relied heavily on high-intensity exercises-now she realized that while it was useful for her to have something that raised her heart, she also needed something that rejected the level of stress.
“I started taking – yogaâ and seeing extraordinary mental health and the benefits of wellness by positively affecting my life,” she told her today.
“Now, I am focused on my strength. I am focused on my overall mental health and mind/body awareness. Yoga keeps me based so that I can do better with stress” in everyday life.
Research has shown that yoga can improve balance and flexibility, reduce anxiety, strengthen heart and lung function, and improve sleep quality. Some studies have even linked yoga practice with weight loss, mainly thanks to how practice encourages more conscious eating.
By 2018, York was taking the correct hormonal medicines and working with a doctor who put it on a one -year diet that interrupted processed food and focused on protein and leafy greens.
It also limited its fuel intake in just 30 grams a day – which translates into a small baked potato, a cup of mashed potatoes or a whole grain sandwich.
Studies have shown that an extremely low fuel diet like this can lead to significant weight loss by promoting your body in a ketosis in which fat is burned for energy.
However, diets are not for everyone, as they can lead to changes in intestinal bacteria and make it more difficult to get all nutrients.
This is probably why York said today that this was a meal plan it would “never make long -term” and stressed that “it was made under [her] Doctor’s supervision.â €
But it worked. She lost 130 pounds and has maintained her new weight since 2020 – even with cheating meals.
“If I want to have an ice cream sundae, I won’t worry about it,” she said.
