More than 2 million donut products remembered all over the country over the risk of Listeria: FDA

The Food and Drug Administration has classified a withdrawal of 60 different donut products at its second higher level, the agency announced earlier this week in an update on its website.

The memory was first announced on January 7, but it was classified by FDA as a “Class II memory” on February 5th.

Remembering products were produced by FGF brands, and sold at grocery stores across the United States and Canada, said FDA’s withdrawal report.

Total memory reaches more than 2 million cases of donuts, fritters, paczki, eclairs and munchkins.

The products were all produced before 13 December 2024, and are “within expiration,” says the FDA implementation report.

Listeria monocytogenes, bacteria that may have contaminated donuts can cause listeriosis if consumed, the website told centers for disease control and prevention.

“About 1,600 people get listeriosis each year, and about 260 die,” CDC said.

Those who are at the highest risk from Listeria are “pregnant women and their newborns, adults aged 65 or older, and people with weakened immune system,” the agency said. Other groups “rarely get seriously ill” when exposed to Listeria, noted CDC.

The unborn babies are at special risk from Listeria, the CDC said.

“Infection during pregnancy results in fetal loss in about 20% of cases and the death of newborns in about 3% of cases,” the agency said.

A 2024 listeria explosion associated with a Deli meat processing plant killed nine people and resulted in dozens of hospitalizations, FOX business previously reported.

A Class II reminder is the second highest classification of FDA memories, says its website.

These are issued when there is “a situation in which use, or exposure to, a breach product can cause temporary temporary or reversible medical consequences of health or when the probability of serious health consequences is distant,” the website says of the FDA.

This is in contrast to a “class I” memory, the highest level.

A class I remember is “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to a breach product will cause serious unfavorable health or death,” according to the FDA.
